Jury Panel

After 54 hours of hard work to prepare the project prototypes for the final presentation, a panel of highly experienced jury members will evaluate and vote on the final projects to choose the best of the best. You have to aim high to impress these guys!

The following great panelists will be on the Jury Panel for Brussels Startup Weekend in October, 2011.

Ash Maurya

Ash MauryaAsh Maurya, author of Running Lean and a leading figure in the Lean Startup movement will be here to share his experience and insights gained over the past years teaching, mentoring and most importantly, practising the Lean Startup methodology.

Ash is based in Austin, Texas, where he runs two new companies, Lean Canvas and USERcycle and has spoken at prodigious conferences such as SXSW and Startup Lessons Learned.

Ben Piquard

Director of the Microsoft Innovation Center of Mons (Belgium) & Evangelist @Microsoft.

Ben’s specialities: New Technologies; Business Applications; CRM; Business Intelligence; Data warehousing; HR Systems; Performance Management; Training & Skills Developments; Sales & Pre-Sales Coaching.

Brice Le Blévennec

In 1991, Le Blévennec (1967) co-founded Ex Machina which merges with Emalaya in 2001 to become Emakina. In 1999, he co-founded ContactOffice.com. In ten years time, he has created and animated numerous radio and television shows  CyberCafe21 (Radio21), CyberCafe 2.0 (La Deux), NetBusinessNews (BFM), Single and Elle et Lui (PureFM).

He is regularly invited to share his views in seminars. He is co-founder of Emakina, ContactOffice, Ex Machina Television, Ex Cathedra, Tunz.com, Zingle and Objekten.

Bart Becks

Bart Becks is the founder and co-CEO of SonicAngel, a fan driven music platform for emerging talent. Bart was previously CEO of Belgacom Skynet and SeniorVP new media and innovation of SBS Europe/ProSiebenSat1.

He also created Rebel Ventures in 2010, and hence involved in various startups and entrepreneurial initiatives in Europe and the US.

Luc Blyaert

José Zurstrassen

 Jose’s entrepreneurial career started in 1981 when he was still in school with his first application, Invoices. After following the course of Civil Engineer (Computer Science) in Dutch at the VUB and completing the studies of Commercial Engineer at the ULB in French, he worked as a project engineer at Scorpio Network Services on projects for major banks (Credit Lyonnais) and institutional clients (European Commission).

José returned to entrepreneurship in 1995 when he founded Skynet with his brother and a friend. Skynet was acquired by Belgacom in 1998.

In 1998, José created KEYTRADE – an online brokerage – with the same partners. Keytrade went public in December 1999, absorbed Real-Bank in 2002 and became a bank itself. Keytrade was sold to Crédit Agricole in 2006.

Since 2001, José has made it his mission to revive the passion for entrepreneurship in Belgium. He gives lectures and workshops, as well as chairs numerous organizations including YPO Brussels and TEDxBrussels.

He regularly invests his money, energy and competence in start-ups, such as Borderlinx, Mondial Telecom, Younited, VirtualDesk, Thinfactory, EarlyTracks, 21Net, NewTree, SelfSun and many others.

Steven Coppens

Steven Coppens (1975) joined Gimv in 2000. He is actively involved in early and later stage software and internet investments in Europe and the US. Before joining Gimv, he worked as a Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Brussels. During this period, he mainly worked on international SAP implementations. Prior to that, he was a Business Analyst for United Technologies Corporation in Paris.

Steven Coppens serves on the boards of TinubuSquare, Openbravo, Human Inference, ActivePath and Luma and was a board member of Maximiles (IPO, France), Ecophos (sold to familiy fund), Proficient (sold to LivePerson – Nasdaq) and L&C (sold to Nuance – Nasdaq).

He holds a Master in Applied Economics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and a Master from ESC Montpellier (France).
